I’m not a fan of Sack Snyder. I remember when I saw the trailer for “Watchmen” It looked so unique. It looked completely different from the other superhero films of the time. And, since it came out before we became completely saturated in comic book films, I thought it would be so cool.
Check out my game face! I’ll keep it on all movie! Literally! No other facial expressions to speak of!
When I saw the film for the first time, I was pretty disappointed. I mean, the visual style is neat and very unique. the blue guy was pretty cool for the time. I liked the idea of having a more cynical superhero movie… but in the end I was bored…. the movie was flatter than that cup of Mountain Dew I left in my car the other day (don’t ask). I really wanted to like it… but I just couldn’t Continue reading →
Let’s get a few things out of the way before we get started:
Government overreach is bad
A government that grows too big, over taxes, or puts too much burden on the people rather than protecting their rights, is a problem
Now that we have those out of the way, let me get to the subject of this post. I think the title is absurd. It should be a given that taxes are okay. But more and more I see people who talk about how taxes are theft, or how the government shouldn’t be allowed to steal our money. I have a problem with that idea. And I feel I need to explain why. The other day on Facebook, One of my Facebook Acquaintances shared a graphic that I found rather odd: It’s sentiment that is common, but in my opinion, misguided. Nevertheless it’s a common idea in society today.
This idea is reflected in many other similar comments. Things we’ve probably heard, like “I’m here because I worked hard!” or “I pulled myself up by my bootstraps. If I can do it, so can anyone.” the general idea of all of these statements is: Work hard, make good decisions, and you can be successful! Make poor decisions and you will fail!
While I agree with those ideas at face value, I think these statements are dismissive of how much impact circumstance can have on success. With that in mind, I would like to just suggest a few ways that circumstances have led me to the point in my life that I’m at now. Continue reading →
I don’t know what is happening in this picture… but it is certainly random!
It’s been waaayyyyyyy too long since I’ve posted some random thoughts around here. I couldn’t wait any longer. In honor of it being the first in forever, here is a special edition of random thoughts, where in actuality I am going to include a couple facts about myself to create a somewhat less random section of thoughts. When did the United States national anthem become more about the performer and not the song? When did it become more about “How many notes can I add” and not about “what is this song actually about?”
Tonight at the NBA finals another upstart young singer belted the national anthem, hoping to garner as many hoots and hollers as she possibly could for her elaborate and virtuosic singing. (and I’ll admit, for a ten year old, the girl sounds like she will grow up to have an impressive voice) And to be honest, if those were her goals, then fantastic. The audience cheered (but let’s be honest. Even if she had botched it, cried, needed to start over, the crowd would’ve been supportive; The national anthem is the one time in sporting events that everyone turns into actual good people) Continue reading →
I mean seriously. February was my last post! and I think the post before that was several months before! I promise I haven’t abandoned my 11 followers (who, for all I know, are also lazy bloggers who have abandoned their blogs as well since my last post). I mean, I’ve had good excuses for not posting (I’ve been busy… like… really busy) but they aren’t the best, especially if you consider that Netflix still gets PLENTY of use (I mean, I know I’m pathetic, but I just really wanted to catch up on my “Supernatural” and re-watch “Heroes” in preparation for the new spinoff series coming soon (get pumped for the most recent announcement about the show! But I’ve also had lots of good post ideas go out the window. but it feels sooooo goooooooooood! Continue reading →
I’ve done a great job of not posting political things in places where I might offend or upset friends or family (I have this wonderful blog to thank for that). Occasionally I might comment on someone else’s post, but I try to keep my opinions to myself (because when has a Facebook discussion about politics or social issues ever yielded a positive result).
I enjoy a good conspiracy theory. I love hearing about people who, for no apparent reason, decide something is true, and then, for some other reason, decide they will spend the rest of their life proving something true… even when there is zero actual evidence to show their absurd theories are true.
This is where the best conspiracy theory ever began… sort of…
To be a conspiracy theorist, you must have some serious creativity, and some even more serious outside the box thinking… Of course, to assume your conspiracy is true… well… you’re pretty far outside the box already. Continue reading →
So I’m making a new resolution as of today. The resolution is never to ever read any post or article that has a title that goes something like this: THIS IS THE CUTEST THING YOU’LL EVER SEE! or, YOU WON’T BELIEVE WHO THESE CARTOON CHARACTERS ARE BASED ON!
This guy knows what I’m talking about!
Why have I made this new resolution? because 100% of the time, these posts/articles are LIES! EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM! Sure, I occasionally read one where I say, “yeah, that’s pretty cute.” or “Oh, that’s kind of interesting, I didn’t know that,” or even, on rare occasions, “Oh, I wouldn’t have thought that about so and so.” But never once have I though “OMG THIS IS LITERALLY THE CUTEST THINK I’VE EVER SEEN!!!! THEY WERE SO AMAZINGLY RIGHT! I’M SO GLAD I CLICKED ON THIS LINK!” or “OMG, THIS IS THE MOST AMAZING AND UNBELIEVABLE FACT I’VE EVER LEARNED! I CAN’T EVEN RIGHT NOW!” Continue reading →
You know what’s really annoying? Blog posts complaining about things people post on Facebook. They just drive me nuts!
… *Whispers* “Does he know that statement is going to make this entire post very ironic?”
People’s posts on Facebook can get pretty annoying, I have to admit. It drives me crazy to have friends who post everything in their life, or pictures of food, or overly cryptic comments, or repost every last thing they come across so people will like them more often (This isn’t Pinterest, People!!!!) And I’ve complained as much as anyone about any of the above posts…
And because I don’t like it, you shouldn’t be allowed to post it!
